The garden is located about 12 kms towards the north-west of the Mysore city. The garden with its illuminated fountains, botanical park and extensive varieties of plants is a jaw-dropping place in reality. It was the idea of Sir Mirza Ismail, the then Diwan of Mysore State, to beautify the area around the Krishnaraja Sagar Dam (KRS Dam), which is situated in Srirangapatna taluk of Mandya district. The dam built across the river Kaveri at Kannambadi, was initially called as 'Kannambadi Katte' and was later renamed as Krishnaraja Sagara in 1917 after the king Krishnaraja Odeya IV. Chamundi Hills : Chamundeswari Temple is situated on the top of Chamundi Hills which are about 3,489 ft. above sea level and located at a distance of 13 kms from Mysore. The temple is dedicated to Sri Chamundeswari, the titular deity of the Mysore Royal Family, also described as ‘Mahishasura Mardini. Timings: 7:30 am - 9:00 pm all days Entry Fees: NA Mysore Zoo : From bears to jaguars, you can spot almost every animal at the famous Mysore Zoo. Visiting this place and exploring it to the fullest with your loved ones is surely a delightful memory. The Railway Museum was established in 1979 by Indian Railways, the second such museum after the National Railway Museum in Delhi. The museum is opposite the Central Food Technology and Research Institute on Krishnaraja Sagar Road. Timings: 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM, and 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM Mysore Palace : Mysore Palace, also known as Amba Vilas Palace, is a historical palace and a royal residence (house). It is located in Mysore, Karnataka, India. It used to be the official residence of the Wadiyar dynasty and the seat of the Kingdom of Mysore. The palace is in the centre of Mysore, and faces the Chamundi Hills eastward. Designed by Henry Irwin, an English architect, the style is that of Indo-Saracenic architecture, with elements from Islamic, Rajput, and Gothic architecture styles. It is a three-storey, gray granite structure, about 75 m (245 ft.) long and about 48 m (156 ft.) wide. There are square towers, five stories tall, at each of the cardinal points, topped with pink domes. The tallest tower, 44 m (145 ft.) tall, is at the centre of the palace and is topped with a gold plated dome. During this festival, the Palace is lit with more than 96,000 lights for two months, which add a top-of-the-world grandeur to the grand palace of Mysore.
